I'm having pain in my knee and have gone to the doctor for an MRI but I don't known if it's torn?

I've had meniscus surgery before and they shaved my meniscus, but I have been having pain in my knee again and the doctor sent me for an MRI. When we got to look at the MRI, he said that it wasn't conclusive because the MRI shows something that looks like a tear, but they don't know if it's new or if it's from the shaving from the first surgery. It feels new, but I'm not the doc. Is there a way to find out for sure?
