What is the knee surgery process (canada)?

I have a torn ACL and possible torn meniscus, i was referred by my doctor to a big city. I have a 'consultation' with an orthopedic surgeon in a week, and i was wondering when i will get the surgery if i do for sure need it. Is it like a walk in surgery place or do you have to book a surgery months in advance?
